  • Why: The recall is being issued due to potential contamination with glass fragments.
  • Where: The recall affects products sold in the United States and Canada.

Ajinomoto Foods North America is recalling a significant amount of its frozen chicken fried rice products, including those sold under the Trader Joeโ€™s brand, due to the risk of glass contamination.

The recall involves nearly 3.4 million pounds of products distributed across the United States and Canada. This action follows consumer reports of glass pieces found in the products, though no injuries have been reported so far.

The recall, announced by the U.S. Department of Agriculture on Feb. 19, covers products manufactured between Sept. 8, 2025, and Nov. 17, 2025.

Specifically, the recall includes 1.53-kg packages of Ajinomoto Yakitori Chicken with Japanese-Style Fried Rice and 20-oz. bags of Trader Joeโ€™s Chicken Fried Rice. The affected Trader Joeโ€™s products were distributed nationwide, while Ajinomotoโ€™s were exported to Canada.

“Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them,” the recall notice says.

Frozen chicken rice recall triggered by consumer complaints

The issue was identified after Ajinomoto Foods received four complaints from consumers about finding glass in the products.

The U.S. Department of Agricultureโ€™s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has expressed concern that some contaminated products may still be in consumersโ€™ freezers. The FSIS said it is conducting recall effectiveness checks to ensure that the products are removed from circulation and that consumers are informed.

Ajinomoto Foods is advising consumers to either discard the products or return them to the place of purchase for a refund.

The company has provided contact information for consumers seeking further details: they can reach out to Ajinomoto Foods North America at 855-742-5011 or via email at [email protected].
