Great Value Grape Juice recall overview:

  • Who: Refresco Canada Inc. is recalling Great Value brand 100% Grape Juice.
  • Why: The recall is being initiated due to the presence of tartrate crystals in the juice.
  • Where: The recall is effective nationwide in Canada.

Refresco Canada Inc. is recalling Great Value brand 100% Grape Juice due to the presence of tartrate crystals, which could pose a risk to consumers. Great Value is a private-label brand owned and marketed by Walmart.

The Walmart recall was issued Nov. 26 and was later updated Dec. 11. It specifically targets the Great Value 100% Grape Juice, packaged in 1.82-liter bottles with the UPC code 6 81131 71323 8 and the code CT89-01; BB/MA: 2026 OC 08. 

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has categorized this as a Class 3 recall, indicating the presence of extraneous material in the product.

The recall notice advises consumers to avoid using, selling, or distributing the affected grape juice stating.

Tartrate crystals can affect quality and safety of grape juice, Walmart Recall says

The presence of tartrate crystals, while not typically harmful, can affect the quality and safety of the beverage. 

The CFIA has published this notification to ensure that retailers and consumers are aware of the potential issue.

“Consumers who have this product should discontinue use immediately and return it to the place of purchase or discard it,” the recall notice says.

Refresco Canada Inc. is actively working to address the issue by removing the affected product from store shelves and advising consumers on the proper steps to take if they have purchased the juice.

Refresco Canada Inc. says it has not received any reports of illness or injury related to the recall so far. The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.

Yoplait recently issued a recall in Canada for its YOP Drinkable Yogurt products due to concerns that they may contain pieces of plastic.
