John Deere recalled more than 163,000 tractors due to a defect that can cause them to lose braking, causing a crash hazard.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission website publishedย the recallย Sept. 26. It applies to 147,900 John Deere 1023E, 1025R and 2025R Compact Utility Tractors sold in the United States and 16,800 sold in Canada.ย
The front bell crank in the brake linkage of the tractors can fail, causing the tractor to lose braking, resulting in a crash hazard, the recall notice states.
John Deere says it received four reports of the brake linkage failing, including one hospitalization and two impact injuries and minor property damage to the tractors, according to the recall.
Consumers should stop using tractors, contact John Deere
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled tractors and contact an authorized John Deere dealer to schedule an appointment to bring the tractor into the dealer for a free repair, the recall says. If the consumer is not able to transport the tractor to a dealerโs location, the dealer will make arrangements to repair the unit at the consumerโs home.ย
John Deere is contacting all known purchasers directly, according to the recall notice.
The recalled tractors are green and yellow and sold at John Deere dealers nationwide from Nov. 2017-July 2024 for $12,700-$21,000.
Last year, the American Farm Bureau Federation signed aย memorandum of understandingย with John Deere that will enable farmers who own John Deere farm equipment to conduct their own repairs.ย
