Seasonale and Seasonique recall overview:

  • Who: Teva Canada Ltd. is recalling two lots of Seasonique and one lot of Seasonale birth control pills.
  • Why: The recall is due to the potential absence of a blister card in the packaging, which could lead to missed doses and an increased risk of unintended pregnancy.
  • Where: The Seasonique recall is active in Canada.

Teva Canada Ltd. is recalling certain lots of its Seasonique and Seasonale birth control pills due to a packaging defect.

The issue involves the potential absence of a blister card within the packaging, which could result in missed doses and increase the risk of unintended pregnancies.

The recall, announced on Feb. 13, affects two lots of Seasonique (DIN: 02346176) and one lot of Seasonale (DIN: 02296659) pills. Seasonique packages contain a 91-day supply divided into three blister cards, while Seasonale birth control packages also include a 91-day supply but with different pill compositions.

The absence of a blister card could lead to users missing doses, which is critical for the effectiveness of these contraceptive pills, according to the recall notice.

“Missing a pill could lead to unwanted pregnancy and other side effects, including spotting and irregular bleeding,” the notice says.

Consumers advised not to skip doses or discontinue use of affected products

Customers are urged not to skip doses or discontinue use of the product, instead, they should return any packages missing a blister card or pills to their pharmacy for a replacement or alternative product.

If immediate access to a pharmacy is not possible, users should continue taking the next pill in the correct sequence and use a non-hormonal backup contraception method, such as condoms, until a replacement is obtained.

Teva Canada Ltd. is taking steps to address the issue by recalling the affected lots and advising consumers on the necessary actions to mitigate the risk of unintended pregnancy.

The company has provided contact information for consumers seeking further assistance or information about the Seasonique recall. Consumers can reach Teva Canada Ltd. at 1-800-268-4129 or via email at [email protected].

Health Canada is actively monitoring the recall process and the company’s investigation into the issue. The department will update the public if any new health risks are identified.

There have so far been no reports of illnesses or injuries related to the Seasonale birth control recall. Teva Canada Ltd. is not facing any legal action over the recall at this time, but recalls can sometimes lead to class action lawsuits, which are closely monitored by Top Class Actions.
