RYOBI pressure washer recall overview:

TTI Outdoor Power Equipment is recalling about 764,000 RYOBI Electric Pressure Washers in the U.S. and 16,000 in Canada due to a serious safety concern.
The issue involves the pressure washer capacitor which can overheat and explode, potentially causing parts to forcefully eject at risk of injury.
The recall, announced on Aug. 28, includes the RYOBI models RY142300 and RY142711VNM.
These units are characterized by their green color, spray nozzle, detergent tank with a blue cap, and accessory storage. The model and serial numbers can be found on the data plate on the side of the motor housing.
The recall affects pressure washers sold at Home Depot, Direct Tools Factory Outlet stores, and online from July 2017 through June 2024, priced between $300 and $400. The units were manufactured in Vietnam and China by TTI Outdoor Power Equipment, Inc., based in Anderson, South Carolina.
Consumers urged to stop using pressure washers with 32 injuries reported
According to the recall notice, the defect has resulted in 135 reports of overheating capacitors, with 41 explosions causing 32 injuries, including fractures and injuries to fingers, hands, face, and eyes.
The recall notice advises consumers to immediately stop using the affected pressure washers and visit the RYOBI website to confirm if their unit is included in the recall.
To address the issue, TTI Outdoor Power Equipment is offering a free repair kit that includes a replacement capacitor and instructions for installation. Consumers can obtain this kit by visiting the RYOBI recall website.

The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.
RYOBI is currently facing a class action over certain Ryobi 40-Volt Brushless 21” Cordless Walk-Behind Mowers due to an alleged fire hazard which plaintiffs claim the company should have known about.
