- Who: Kendal Nutricare Canada Ltd. is recalling Kendamil brand Infant Formula with whole milk.
- Why: The recall is due to contamination with cereulide toxin.
- Where: The recall is effective nationwide in Canada.
Kendal Nutricare Canada Ltd. has issued a recall for its Kendamil brand Infant Formula with whole milk due to the presence of cereulide toxin.
The Kendamil recall affects products distributed nationally in Canada and sold exclusively at Costco Wholesale locations. The recall was announced on February 22, 2026, by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA).Â
The specific products involved are 1049 g packages of milk-based powder with iron, identified by UPC 8 50045 23826 1, with manufacturing codes MANF: 2025 MA 01 and BEST BEFORE: 2027 MA 01.
The recall was triggered by a similar recall in another country, highlighting the potential risk posed by cereulide toxin, which is produced by certain strains of Bacillus cereus. This toxin is known for its stability, making it resistant to heat and unlikely to be destroyed during cooking or preparation of the infant formula with whole milk.
“Symptoms typically begin rapidly after ingestion and most often involve gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea and vomiting,” the recall notice says.
Consumers shouldn’t consume, use, sell or distribute the recalled products
The CFIA is actively investigating the situation to ensure that all affected products are removed from the marketplace. The agency is also verifying that the industry complies with the Kendamil recall directives.
Consumers are advised not to consume, use, sell or distribute the recalled products. Instead, they should dispose of them or return them to the point of purchase.
“If you think you became sick from consuming a recalled product, contact your healthcare provider,” the recall notice says.
Kendal Nutricare Canada Ltd. is cooperating with the CFIA to address the issue and ensure consumer safety. The company is conducting a thorough review of its production processes to prevent future occurrences. Additionally, the CFIA is monitoring the situation closely and may extend the recall to other products if necessary.
