Hyundai recall overview:

  • Who: Hyundai Auto Canada is recalling several models, including the Hyundai Kona, Santa Fe, Elantra, and Genesis GV80, among others, from model years 2018 to 2025.
  • Why: The Hyundai recall is due to a potential malfunction of the vehicle horn.
  • Where: The recall is active in Canada.

Hyundai Auto Canada is issuing a Hyundai recall for multiple vehicle models spanning from 2018 to 2025 due to a potential defect in the horn assembly.

The issue arises when water infiltrates the horn assembly, leading to corrosion of the electrical contacts, which can cause the horn to malfunction or cease functioning entirely.

The recall notice was officially published Nov. 17 by Transport Canada. It affects a wide range of models, including the Hyundai Kona, Santa Fe, Elantra, Venue, and the Genesis GV80, among others.

The malfunctioning horn poses a safety risk as it could prevent drivers from alerting others to potential dangers. According to the recall notice, “a horn that doesn’t work properly could prevent a driver from warning others of a danger and create an unsafe situation” .

Recall: Drivers should check their horn regularly

The Hyundai recall notice advises vehicle owners to regularly test their horns to ensure they are functioning correctly. In the meantime, Hyundai will notify owners in writing and recommend contacting a dealership for a free replacement if the horn is malfunctioning.

The company has also extended the warranty for the horn to 10 years or 200,000 kilometers in case of future failures. This aims to mitigate the safety risks associated with the horn malfunction.

For more information about the Hyundai recall, consumers can visit Transport Canada’s motor vehicle safety recalls database for updates or contact their local Hyundai dealership.

Vehicle owners can also check if their vehicle is included in the recall using the recall lookup function on the Hyundai Canada website.

Hyundai says it has not received any reports of injuries related to the Hyundai recall so far. The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.
