Health Canada, Transport Canada, Canada Tire Corp. Recall Overview:

  • Who: More than 150 products, including weight loss supplements, sexual enhancement pills, socks, hand sanitizers and Ford Mustangs, are being recalled in Canada.
  • Why: The products are being recalled due to posing a range of safety risks, including death, to consumers.
  • Where: The recalls are effective nationwide in Canada.

More than 150 products, including weight loss supplements, sexual enhancement pills, socks, hand sanitizers and Ford Mustangs, are being recalled in Canada due to posing numerous โ€” and even deadly โ€” risks to consumers.

In one recall notice posted by Health Canada, 119 โ€œunauthorized health productsโ€ are being pulled from the market for posing โ€œserious health risks.โ€ The various products are promoted for sexual enhancement, weight loss, workout aid, as “poppers” or for lightening skin or treating skin conditions (such as eczema or psoriasis).

The products include sexual enhancement products Alien Power Platinum 11000, Black Mamba Premium Triple Maximum and Blue Diamond; workout supplements HD Muscle PreHD Preworkout and MYO-CARD; and Heavy Duty Bolt poppers. For a full list of products, click here.

Recalled Products Pose Serious Health Risks, Including Death

Health Canada says the products are labeled to contain or have been tested and found to contain dangerous ingredients, including prescription drugs, possibly at doses exceeding maximum recommended amounts. Those drugs include cardarine, dapoxetine, alkyl nitrites, selective androgen receptor modulators, sildenafil, tadalafil and yohimbine.

โ€œPrescription drugs should be taken only under the supervision of a health professional because they may cause serious side effects,โ€ the recall notice says. โ€œUsing a product that contains ingredients that the consumer is not aware of increases the chance of dangerous allergies and interactions with other medications and foods.โ€

For example, alkyl nitrites, which are found in poppers, are used in various products, such as leather cleaners, room odourizers or liquid incense. In poppers, however, consumers inhale or ingest the alkyl nitrites for recreational purposes.

โ€œProducts containing alkyl nitrites may pose serious risks, including death, depending on the amount used,โ€ the notice says.

Health Canada is urging consumers to stop using all recalled products.

Hand Sanitizers Unauthorized for Sale

In a separate recall notice, Health Canada is recalling 48 types of hand sanitizer due to a range of issues that pose health and safety risks to consumers.

The recalled products may contain ingredients that are not permitted by Health Canada or undeclared impurities at elevated levels; have improper labeling; be missing risk statements; be unauthorized for sale in Canada; be sold without proper product testing; be counterfeit; or have defective or faulty packaging, the recall notice says.

The recalled products include Fighting Spirit, Bio-Odeur, Absolute Hand Sanitizer, Gely, Gigi’s Goodbye Germs Hand Sanitizer and Defenz. For a full list of the recalled hand sanitizers, click here.

Health Canada is asking consumers with the recalled products to stop using them immediately and return them to a pharmacy for proper disposal or follow guidelines on how to dispose of hazardous waste.

โ€œNever eat or drink hand sanitizers, as swallowing even small amounts can be dangerous or fatal. If swallowed, call a poison control centre or seek medical help immediately,โ€ the notice says.

Kids Socks With Bells Could Cause Choking

Meanwhile, Stance Inc. is recalling 325 pairs of its Stance Kids Reiny Szn Mid-Cushion Crew Socks due to the bells on the socks posing a potential choking hazard to young children.

In a recall notice posted by Health Canada, the company says the bells on its size medium (UPC: 190107481113) and size large (UPC: 190107481120) socks could detach, posing a safety risk.

The combed cotton blend socks are brown with a black heel and toe and have a reindeer image with gold jingling bells attached around the ankle.ย

Stance Inc is asking consumers to immediately stop using the recalled socks and contact the company to receive a store credit.

Luckily, as of Jan. 31, 2022, the company says it has received no reports of incidents or injuries in Canada.ย

Ford Recalling Mustangs Over Rearview Camera Issue

In another recall, Ford is recalling 23,269 of its 2015-2017 Ford Mustang vehicles due to an issue with the rearview camera. The recall follows a separate recall in the U.S. for the same issue.

According to the recall notice, on certain vehicles, opening and closing the trunk lid could damage the wiring for the rearview camera. If this happens, the rearview camera image may not display properly when a driver shifts to reverse. Also, there could be a problem with the connections inside the rearview camera, the notice says.

โ€œA rearview camera image that does not display could reduce a driver’s ability to see behind the vehicle while backing up. This could increase the risk of a crash.โ€

Ford says it will notify owners by mail and instruct them to take their vehicles to a dealer to replace the rearview camera and inspect and repair the decklid wiring.

Canadian Tire Corporation Recalls X-Trail AT Tiresย

Concurrently, Canadian Tire Corporation is recalling its MotoMaster Eliminator X-Trail AT Tires, model numbers 202-2097 and 202-2098, due to a missing snowflake marker.

The company says the affected tires are missing the 3PMS (snowflake) Symbol from the tire’s sidewall due to a manufacturing issue.

The recall is non-safety related, and the tires meet the Transport Canada requirements.

Canadian Tire Corporation says consumers should check their tires to see if they are part of the recall, and, if so, a dealer at the store of purchase will replace the tires with the same tire at no cost.
