Consumer Products Recalled Due to Allergens: President’s Choice Advisory

Popular consumer products in Canada have been recalled or issued an advisory recently, regarding allergens. Those with sensitive allergies are watchful when it comes to the products they consume and use, so these allergens recalls are potentially very serious. Check the following products to keep yourself and loved ones with allergies safe. 

President’s Choice Gluten-Free Chicken Strips Advisory

President’s Choice gluten-free chicken strips may be popular with those with celiac disease.  Unfortunately, a consumer advisory has been placed on the gluten-free chicken strips by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency because they may contain undeclared gluten.

There have been several reports of bad reactions to the product by individuals who cannot tolerate gluten. The affected allergen advisory includes the 600-gram packages with a barcode number 060383204884. President’s Choice gluten-free chicken strips are sold all across Canada at Atlantic Superstore, Shoppers Drug Mart, Dominion, and No Frills.

The advisory may lead to a recall if an examination of the product shows it definitely contains gluten.

Celiac disease is a digestive immune disorder triggered by gluten and causes diarrhea, stomach pains, bloating, and weight loss. Celiac disease appears to be genetic, and it can affect people at all stages of life. Sometimes, it does not develop until a person is in their 60s or 70s. There is no cure, but avoiding wheat and other triggers can help maintain health.

Taylor Farms BBQ Ranch Chopped Salad Kits Recall

On Aug. 27, Taylor Farms salad kits sold at Sobeys Inc. and other stores have been recalled by the CFIA. The allergens recall is due to the product containing wheat and sesame without mentioning the allergens on the product. Consumers with food allergies rely on being warned of allergens on the packages they buy. Without them, there could be serious consequences and dangers for people with allergies. 

The CFIA has established a Class 3 recall on the 377-gram salad kits with a UPC code of 030223041719. Class 3 recalls are issued for items that conflict with national agency required food safety regulations. 

Taylor Farms BBQ Ranch Chopped Salad Kits have reportedly been sold in most provinces including: 

• Alberta 
• British Columbia
• Manitoba 
• New Brunswick
• Newfoundland
• Labrador
• Nova Scotia
• Ontario
• Prince Edward Island
• Saskatchewan

Sobeys, FreshCo., Safeway, and IGA sell the allergen recalled salad kits.

The number of people triggered by sesame allergies has escalated in recent years. Sesame allergies can be just as serious as peanut allergies, causing anaphylaxis. During a reaction anaphylactic shock can occur, making it difficult to breathe. Sesame allergies include symptoms like coughing, nausea, vomiting, hives, itchiness, and more. Medical attention is necessary immediately in the case of a reaction. 

SeneGence for Men Grooming Hair Balm Recall

Another allergens recall in Canada is concerning a hair balm with potential mold contamination. Health Canada recalled SeneGence for Men Grooming Hair Balm on Aug. 28. Some of the hair balms might contain a type of common mold called Penicillium concentricum. This type of mold can afflict people with allergies or sensitivities.  

If you have bought this hair balm for men, do not continue to use it and take it back to the store where it was purchased for a refund. 

The allergens Canada recall involves the 52-gram/1.8-ounce plastic container of SeneGence for Men Grooming Hair Balm. It is blue with white letters.

The allergens recall includes these batch codes and day lot codes: 

• 0D05 20112G
• 0E05 20125G
• 0E29 20140G

All have an SKU of 3411. 

There have been no reports of any allergic reactions in Canada as of Aug. 21. 348 affected hair balms have been sold in Canada from May 2020 to Aug. 2020.
